First Week

So last week was my first week at Free to Be day care. Everyone seems really nice, so far I have met Barb the director. Jessica another fellow student at Stockton that just started working there this year. I also met Pat the other woman in charge. I basically just helped kids get in their jackets, hats and gloves and than took them out to play in the snow. Part of Free to Be 's program is to give the children an hour outside in the morning and an hour outside in the afternoon. Even in the snow. Some of the children had snow pants and boots others did not. Free to Be has a collection of boots and hats and gloves for the children in need. So after bundling all of the children up, I went outside to play. It was a great time watching the kids play in the snow. It wasn't as much fun though when we went inside and had to de-bundle them! Almost all of them were covered in mudd! Since there was an inch of snow on the ground they were basically playing in the mudd. What a mess!

Anyway, I also went to Free to Be's pot luck dinner on Friday night. That was fun. I brought Chicken tenders! I was surprised though that only about three or four families showed up. I got to meet the other teacher Brandon though. He was very nice. I also met a freshmen girl named Tatianna who works days after class. It was interesting to see how the children behaved with their parents with them. A couple were morre shy towards me , they kinda clung to their parents. One girl acted the extreme opposite she ran around like a banshee!

Happy

Ok so yesterday was my meeting with Barbara at "Free to Be". I thought the meeting went extremely well, except for the fact that the daycare was crazy busy. It didn't seem to phase Barbara at all. She sent me into their office, in the basement, to fill out all of my paper work. I recieved a locker, a name tag and a handbook which i am in the process of reading. My first imppression of the place as a whole was pretty neat. It's basically like a house turned into a daycare facility. I got as much information out of Barbara as possible in that time period.
I am not going to be in class today because i have to go get fingerprinted so I can start my internship on Thurs. i am going to be doing every Tues and Thurs a couple hours each day. In addition to any special events I can attend . For example Friday is Free to Be's potluck dinner. I feel a little bit funny going but I will stick it out at least for a little while. I think I am going to bring my infamous baked ziti! I am begining to work on Phase one and will hopefully have it finished by the end of the week. The handbook is bigger than I thought! Thanks professor Rubenstein for getting me into Free to Be, I really think it's going to be a great experience!
